Research and Education (south wall)

Research area

The projected research area is the office for the town historian, but also offers space for people to read looseleaf collections of local history and a black box containing the tax maps, property rolls,  and our collection of photographs of properties in the 1915 village of Gilboa (these are the Board of Water Supply photographs that were used in establishing repayment costs for property under eminent domain).

One Room Schoolhouse

The Schoolhouse display is a small room area on the southwest corner of the addition. If features period furniture and maps from the Forks-in-the-Road schoolhouse, has school materials displayed in the Broome Center showcase, and offers free pamphlets on reprints and information of one-room schools in the early 20th century.

We need to refurbish the walls in the schoolhouse.

Memorials

Nicholas J. Juried

The outside of the north wall of the schoolhouse is at this point cramped with chairs, but has the start of a permanent memorial planned for Nick Juried. We certainly want to recognize Nick’s generosity to Gilboa, Schoharie, and the Catskills, but we want to also have tributes from Texas and for animal shelters as well as history centers.

Recently Lost Gilboans

We are also planning revolving memorials to local people over time.

Veteran’s Honor Roll

Started by LaVerne Hubbard, we plan to maintain and expand the list of those who have served the country and have lived at some point in Gilboa. We plan to do this on the outside of the schoolhouse’s east wall.
