Activities of the Gilboa Historical Society

Meetings (then and now) at the GHS complex

Our meetings are held regularly on the third Wednesday of each month (March through December) at the Historical Society complex on Stryker Road just off 990V, to the west of Schoharie Creek. In the event of snow or ice, they will be held at the Gilboa Town Hall on 990V, about 1000-feet east of the creek. Click here for a map to both the GHS complex and the Gilboa Town Hall.

Each has entertainment at 7, followed by a break for refreshments, and ending with a short business meeting. Meetings typically end around 9.

Exceptions:

  • The July meeting is a field trip starting at 6, carpooling from the complex to the chosen location.
  • The August meeting is our annual Ice Cream Social, starting at 6 at Dorothy Cox Juried Pavilion.
  • The December meeting is our bottle auction and social, starting at the Town Hall at 7.

The Gilboa Historical Society complex includes the Gilboa Museum, the Nicholas Juried History Center, and the Dorothy Cox Juried Pavilion is at 122 Stryker Road, Gilboa NY 12076. Note: your GPS may not have been updated to reflect the 2 Stryker Roads due to hurricane Irene. To get to the complex using Route 30, you have to get to the intersection of state routes 990V and 30, go east on 990V for less than a mile, and then turn left on the southern portion of Stryker Road. The complex is about 50 feet in, behind the town garage.  No not use the the northern portion of Stryker Road.

The Gilboa Town Hall is at 373 State Route 990V Gilboa, NY 12076, just over the Schoharie bridge from the complex.

Museum tours (then and now)

The Gilboa Museum and Juried History Center has traditionally been open from noon to 4:30 Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the Columbus Day weekend. Due to Covid-19, we do not know the schedule for the summer of 2021.

Because of our  extensive open areas, however, we are working on having outside activities (concerts, ice-cream social, etc.) as much as possible and so we can both socialize and socially distance.

We also hope to introduce a new TourOnDemand. A visitor’s email sent to this address would be routed automatically to in-proximity GHS members, one of whom might be free to open the museum on-demand. A passing tourist, for instance, could check in and ask for a personal tour of the center, so that a free docent could open the museum for a passing-by family or be able to arrange a tour at another convenient time.

Short Performances all winter long

Starting 2020 Thanksgiving, the Gilboa Historical Society is presenting short performance each week (click here) by a rotating roster of musicians and story-tellers. The current performance is linked in the top right corner of all site pages, or you can be added to our mail list for reminders of upcoming shows! The participating talent includes Dave Ruch, Phil Banaszak, Reggie Harris, and Nancy Payne rotating performances through the rest of winter months.
